Yoga as a Therapeutic Intervention

Series: Stress Recess

Description: The practice of yoga, which includes physical postures and exercises, regulation of breathing, deep relaxation and meditation techniques, is capable of enhancing both physical and mental health and is an effective stress management strategy.  Yoga practices have also been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of a wide variety of psychological and medical conditions as an adjunct or primary treatment.  This program will describe the scientific evidence supporting these benefits of yoga in both healthy subjects and in patient populations.

Successful Completion: Your continuing education certificate will be available to print after you view the entire presentation and complete the online evaluation form.

Program Goals: The goal of this educational activity is to provide nurses with an understanding of the potential benefits of yoga practice on stress, health, and a variety of medical and psychological conditions.

Program Objectives:
1. Learner will be able to describe the component techniques within yoga practice and its application and prevalence in both public and clinical settings.
2. Learner will be able to describe some of the physical and psychological benefits of yoga practice.
3. Learner will be able to name a number of disorders for which there is research evidence supporting the efficacy of yoga.
